Course Overview

The goal is to provide an overview of the requirements for local hazard mitigation plans that are found in the Local Mitigation Planning Policy Guide (2022). The Local Mitigation Planning Policy Guide is FEMA’s official policy on, and interpretation of, local hazard mitigation planning requirements set in 44 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 201. The learner must achieve a minimum passing score of 75%; on final knowledge assessments or demonstrate mastery on performance assessments or research assignments to earn the IACET CEU.

Course Objectives:

  • Explain the purpose and intent of state hazard mitigation planning.
  • Present three guiding principles that are used in plan reviews.
  • Describe the requirements for standard state hazard mitigation plans.
  • Describe the requirements for enhanced state hazard mitigation plans.
  • Locate additional hazard mitigation resources.
