Course Overview

This awareness-level course introduces Environmental Health Responders to the unique challenges they may face and the tasks they may perform during emergency preparedness, response, and disaster recovery efforts.

Course Objectives

• Define the roles and responsibilities of Environmental Health Responders in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery.
• Recognize key emergency preparedness initiatives at national, state, local, and tribal levels.
• Identify safety and health protocols for Environmental Health Responders during field deployment.
• Understand the role of Environmental Health Responders in protecting potable water supplies and ensuring safe drinking water.
• Ensure food safety during emergencies and disaster recovery.
• Address wastewater management challenges in emergency situations.
• Conduct building assessments for environmental health concerns.
• Implement effective strategies for managing vectors and pests.
• Address solid waste and debris management issues.
• Ensure safety and health in mass-care environments, including shelters.
• Recognize the role of Environmental Health Responders in radiation incident response.
