Course Overview

This course serves as an introduction to, and overview of, homeland security planning. This course is meant to act as an awareness tool for employees who may or may not have a direct homeland security planning job function. For those who do have job functions that require additional training in planning, this course is meant to be a “gateway” to the three-day Introduction to Homeland Security/Homeland Defense course or the five-day National Planner’s course.

The primary goal of this course is to familiarize DHS employees with basic planning knowledge, as well as to encourage them to learn more about the planning process and to build basic analytical and planning skills.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

 

  • Describe homeland security planning
  • Describe characteristics of effective planning
  • Recognize how the planning process and tools lead to increased homeland security preparedness
  • Describe the planning considerations associated with the National Preparedness Mission Areas: Prevention, Protection, Mitigation, Response, and Recovery
  • Apply knowledge of homeland security preparedness to a given scenario
